Gatidhara Scheme
Gatidhara Scheme: Empowering Youth in West Bengal’s Transport Sector
The Gatidhara Scheme was initiated by the Transport Department of the Government of West Bengal in August 2014. This initiative aims to provide employment opportunities for registered unemployed youth within the transport sector. The scheme was highlighted by the Finance Minister during the budget announcement in February, focusing on enhancing self-employment prospects for families with limited income.
Overview of the Gatidhara Scheme
The primary goal of the Gatidhara Scheme is to foster self-employment in both urban and rural areas of West Bengal through the promotion of transport services. Families earning ₹25,000 or less per month are eligible for financial assistance to support their ventures in the transport industry. The Transport Department is responsible for assessing applicants, while the Labour Department will provide the funding necessary for this initiative.
Key Benefits of the Scheme
Under the Gatidhara Scheme, beneficiaries can receive a subsidy amounting to 30% of the ex-showroom price of a commercial vehicle, capped at ₹1,00,000. This financial support is designed to ease the burden on applicants looking to purchase vehicles for commercial use.
