Aim of the Scheme

The primary goal of the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar (RVP) is to acknowledge the inspiring contributions made by scientists, technologists, and innovators, whether working independently or as part of a team, across various scientific and technological domains. The RVP is anticipated to become one of the highest honors in the fields of science, technology, and innovation in India. Eligible candidates include scientists, technologists, and innovators from government and private sectors, as well as individuals operating independently, who have made significant advancements through groundbreaking research, innovation, or discoveries. Furthermore, individuals of Indian origin residing abroad, who have made exceptional contributions benefiting Indian communities, are also eligible for these awards.

Awards Categories

The awards are conferred in four distinct categories:

• Vigyan Ratna (VR): This award recognizes lifetime achievements in any field of science and technology.
• Vigyan Shri (VS): This award acknowledges distinguished contributions in any scientific or technological field.
• Vigyan Yuva – Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar (VY-SSB): This award encourages and recognizes young scientists who have made exceptional contributions in their respective fields.
• Vigyan Team (VT): This award is given to a team of three or more individuals who have collectively made outstanding contributions in any field of science and technology.

Award Distribution

Ceremony Details

• The awards will be announced annually on National Technology Day, which falls on May 11th.
• The award ceremony for all categories will take place on National Space Day, celebrated on August 23rd.
• The Hon’ble President or the Hon’ble Vice President of India will present the awards.
• The ceremony will be held at Vigyan Bhavan or another appropriate venue each year.
• The awards program will commence in 2024.

Benefits of the Award

Recipients of the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar will receive a Sanad (certificate) signed by the President of India, along with a medallion. A commemorative brochure featuring the citation and photograph of the awardees will also be released on the day of the ceremony. In cases of posthumous awards, the honor will be presented to the next of kin of the awardee. If an awardee cannot attend the ceremony for personal reasons, the award will still be conferred, and no other individual, except in posthumous situations, will be allowed to accept it on their behalf.

To qualify for the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Individuals of Indian origin residing abroad, whose exceptional work benefits the broader Indian community.

Registration Process

3. Select either Individual or Organization.
4. If registering as an Individual, provide:
• Name as per Aadhaar/Valid ID.
• Date of Birth.
• Nominator/Applicant Type.

• Type of Organization.
• Name of the Authorized Person as per Aadhaar/Valid ID.
