The Post-Matric Scholarship scheme for students belonging to the Vimukta Jatis and Nomadic Tribes (VJNT) has been initiated by the Government of Maharashtra. This program aims to provide financial support for higher education, thereby encouraging students from these communities to pursue Post-Matric courses.
Overview of the Scheme
Established on December 24, 1970, through Government Resolution No. EBC 1068/83567/57, the “Post-Matric Scholarship for VJNT Students” is designed to foster higher education among the VJNT community. This initiative focuses on providing financial assistance to eligible students, allowing them to integrate into mainstream education.
Objectives of the Scheme
- To motivate VJNT students to enroll in Post-Matric courses.
- To offer financial support for educational expenses.
- To instill a passion for higher education among VJNT students.
- To enable students to access mainstream educational opportunities.
Financial Benefits
Under this scheme, eligible VJNT students receive various financial aids, including tuition fees, examination fees, and maintenance allowances. The maintenance allowance varies based on the type of course selected:
- Course Group A: Hostellers receive ₹425 per month; Day Scholars receive ₹190 per month.
- Course Group B: Hostellers receive ₹290 per month; Day Scholars receive ₹190 per month.
- Course Group C: Hostellers receive ₹290 per month; Day Scholars receive ₹190 per month.
- Course Group D: Hostellers receive ₹230 per month; Day Scholars receive ₹120 per month.
- Course Group E: Hostellers receive ₹150 per month; Day Scholars receive ₹90 per month.
Additionally, students can receive 100% coverage of tuition fees, examination fees, and maintenance allowances if they are enrolled in government, aided, or non-aided institutions for both professional and non-professional courses.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Post-Matric Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- The annual income of the parents or guardians should not exceed ₹1.5 lakh.
- Applicants must belong to the VJNT category.
- Applicants must be residents of Maharashtra.
- Applicants should be pursuing a government-approved educational course at the Post-Matric level.
- To receive maintenance allowances and exam fees, students must be promoted to the next class.
- If a student fails in a particular year, they will receive benefits for that year but must be promoted to continue receiving support.
- Applicants must go through the Centralized Admission Process (CAP) for professional courses.
- A maximum of two boys from the same parents can apply, while there is no limit on the number of girl applicants.
- A minimum attendance of 75% is mandatory for the current academic year.
- Students changing from a non-professional to a professional course will remain eligible for scholarships.
- Scholarships will continue until the completion of one course. If switching from a professional to a non-professional course, the student will not be eligible for further financial assistance.
Renewal Policy
To maintain eligibility for the scholarship, students must pass their previous examinations. The following conditions apply:
- For Group A students, if a first-time failure occurs, the scholarship may be renewed. For subsequent failures, students must cover their own expenses until promoted.
- For Groups B, C, D, and E, students must be promoted to the next class to continue receiving benefits.
- If a student is unable to appear for examinations due to medical reasons or unforeseen circumstances, a certification from the headmaster may be submitted for consideration.

Benefits
All the Eligible students of VJNT are paid maintenance allowance as under:
If Applicant selects Course Group A - for hostlers ₹425/- p.m. & Day Scholars (Non-Hostlers) ₹190/- p.m. (Duration -Admission date to till exam completion date)
If Applicant selects Course Group B - for hostlers ₹290/- p.m. & Day Scholars (Non-Hostlers) ₹190/-p.m. (Duration - Admission date to exam completion date)
If Applicant selects Course Group C - for hostlers ₹290/- p.m. & Day Scholars (Non-Hostlers) ₹190/- p.m. (Duration - Admission date to till exam completion date)
If Applicant selects Course Group D - for hostlers ₹230/- p.m. & Day Scholars (Non-Hostlers) ₹120/- p.m. (Duration - Admission date to till exam completion date)
If Applicant selects Course Group E - for hostlers ₹150/- p.m. & Day Scholars (Non-Hostlers) ₹90/- p.m. (Duration - Admission date to till exam completion date)
Tuition Fees, Exam Fees, and Maintenance allowance are paid 100% to applicants who are studying in government /aided/non-aided institutions in professional courses and non-professional courses.
If the Applicant gets admission in a government hostel then he will be eligible for only 1/3rd amount of the hostler.
For B.Ed and D.Ed courses: 100 % benefit (Tuition Fees, Exam Fees, and Maintenance Allowance) is applicable for D.Ed, and B.Ed courses. For students studying in Aided, UnAided for D.Ed and B.Ed courses the Fee structure is applicable as per Government rates for the same course.
Note: If the applicant takes an admission on or before the 20th of any month should entitle date maintenance allowance will be issued for that current month. Otherwise, maintenance allowance will be entitled from next month.
