Eklavya Prashikshan Yojana (Eklavya Training Scheme)

The Eklavya Prashikshan Yojana is a significant initiative by the Government of Goa aimed at providing coaching support to Scheduled Tribe (ST) students. This scheme focuses on students enrolled in classes X, XI, and XII, ensuring they are well-prepared for various professional courses that can pave the way for their future careers in fields such as Engineering, Medicine, and Law.

Overview of the Scheme

Launched by the Department of Tribal Welfare, the Eklavya Prashikshan Yojana aims to enhance the educational prospects of ST students across Goa. It specifically targets those studying in Xth, XIth (Science), and XIIth (Arts, Science, and Commerce) classes, equipping them with the necessary coaching to excel in competitive examinations for professional courses such as Engineering, Medicine, Architecture, Paramedical Sciences, and Chartered Accountancy.

Scope of the Scheme

The scheme provides reimbursement of coaching fees to students who are enrolled in coaching institutes recognized by the Directorate of Education or registered under the Goa Coaching Classes Regulation Act, 2001. The reimbursement covers various subjects across different classes, as detailed below:

• Group 1: Xth – Mathematics, Science & English
• Group 2: XIth (Science) – Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology
• Group 3: XIIth (Science) – Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology
• Group 4: XIIth (Commerce) – Accountancy, Mathematics
• Group 5: XIIth (Arts) – English, Economics

Benefits of the Scheme

Under the Eklavya Prashikshan Yojana, eligible students can receive reimbursement of up to 75% of their coaching fees, subject to certain caps based on their location:

• In rural areas, students can claim reimbursement of fees up to ₹10,000 per annum per subject.
• In urban areas, the cap is set at ₹12,000 per annum per subject.

The reimbursement is structured as follows:

• First Instalment: 50% of the fees reimbursed during the first term of the academic year upon submission of the fee receipt.
• Second Instalment: 25% of the fees reimbursed upon presenting the Attendance Certificate for the first term.

Payment Method

Payments are made through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. Students must submit their fee receipts along with a certified fee structure from the coaching institute to facilitate this process.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Eklavya Prashikshan Yojana, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• The applicant must belong to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category.
• The student must be a regular, full-time pupil at a Government School, Higher Secondary School, or a school recognized by the Government of Goa or a Central/State Board of Higher Secondary Education.
• Reimbursement is available only for the class the student is currently attending. If a student fails a class and has to repeat it, fees will not be reimbursed for the second attempt.

Application Process

Students can apply for the Eklavya Prashikshan Yojana through the offline method. The steps to apply are as follows:

• Step 1: Visit the Office of the Director/Deputy Director of the Department of Tribal Welfare, Government of Goa, and request a physical copy of the application form, or download and print the form from an official source.
• Step 2: Complete the application form, ensuring all mandatory fields are filled. Attach a passport-sized photograph (signed across) and include copies of all required documents, self-attested if necessary.
• Step 3: Submit the completed application form along with the necessary documents to the concerned authority.
• Step 4: Obtain a receipt or acknowledgment of the successful application submission from the Department’s Office.
