The Government of Puducherry has introduced the “Award of Adhoc Merit Grant (Special Incentive) to Scheduled Caste Students” scheme to promote educational pursuits among Scheduled Caste students.   • Students must belong to the Scheduled Caste category.
  • A minimum of 65% marks in the 10th Standard/Matriculation/SSLC Board Examination is required.
  • Applicants should be permanent residents of the Union Territory of Puducherry, either by birth or through continuous residence for at least five years.
  • The student must enroll in a recognized university, college, or institution for higher studies.
  • The grant is available regardless of the income level of the student’s parent or guardian, and there are no age restrictions for applicants.

Application Process

The application for the merit grant can be completed online. The following steps outline the process:

  • Step 1: First-time applicants must register on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) by clicking on the “New Registration” icon at https://scholarships.gov.in/. Ensure that all information matches the documents provided.
  • Step 2: Upon successful registration, students will receive a “Student Registration ID”.
  • Step 3: Using the “Student Registration ID”, students can log into their account by selecting the “Fresh Application” option at the NSP Portal.
  • Step 4: After logging in, the welcome page will appear. Click on the “Application Form” icon to access the application screen.
  • Step 5: Complete the application form and submit it by clicking the “Final Submit” button.
  • Step 6: A registration number will be generated upon successful submission, which can be referenced for future inquiries.

Required Documents

When applying for the grant, ensure the following documents are prepared:

  • Proof of Scheduled Caste status.
  • Mark sheet indicating 65% or above in the 10th Standard/Matriculation/SSLC Board Examination.
  • Proof of residence in Puducherry for at least five years.
  • Admission confirmation from a recognized institution for higher studies.

Step 01: The students applying for the scholarship for the first time need to "Register" using the icon “New Registration” at the NSP Portal URL - https://scholarships.gov.in/
, by providing accurate and correct information as per their documents.
Step 02: After successfully get registration done, students will get their “Student Registration ID”.
Step 03: Through “Student Registration ID” students will be able to login into the account using the icon “Fresh Application” at NSP Portal.
Step 04: After successful login to the portal, the welcome page appeared. On clicking the “Application Form” icon, students will be directed to the application screen.
Step 05: Now, the students may fill out the complete application form and on clicking the “Final Submit” button, the application is finally submitted.
Step 06: On successful submission of the application, a system-generated registration number is sent to the students which can be used for future reference.
