The Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) is a pivotal initiative by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship aimed at equipping the youth of India with essential skills. The Short Term Training (STT) component of PMKVY is designed to cater to Indian citizens who are either unemployed or have left their educational institutions. The training provided aligns with the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) and includes critical modules on soft skills, entrepreneurship, financial awareness, and digital literacy. Upon successful completion of their training and assessment, candidates receive assistance in securing employment through their respective training providers.

This initiative is implemented as part of both the Central and State components of the program, offering fresh skill training for those learning for the first time and reskilling opportunities for those already in the workforce. Additionally, candidates will also receive training in English and modules on Employability & Entrepreneurship (EEE). Plans are in place to introduce bridge courses and language training to ensure that these programs meet international standards, thereby enhancing the employment prospects of Indian youth on a global scale.

The duration of training varies based on the specific job roles, catering to a diverse range of industry requirements.

The scheme further promotes the introduction of fee-based courses focused on higher-level skills, specifically those at NSQF levels 5 and above. A comprehensive review of PMKVY 3.0 will be conducted to integrate fees into popular courses that have high demand in the industry and offer above-average salaries. Nonetheless, the program will continue to support the weaker and marginalized communities in society.
