The KSCSTE Emeritus Scientist Scheme is an initiative launched by the Government of Kerala aimed at providing a platform for retired eminent scientists to continue their research pursuits. Benefits of the Scheme
Selected participants in the KSCSTE Emeritus Scientist Scheme will receive the following benefits:
- A monthly fellowship amounting to ₹31,000 for a maximum duration of three years.
- An annual contingent grant of ₹1,00,000 available throughout the project tenure.
- Provision for appointing a Project Fellow to provide necessary technical assistance for the research activities.
- The fellowship is capped at a maximum of three years, aligning with the project’s duration.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for this scheme, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a permanent resident of Kerala.
- Should be a retired scientist or academician from a reputable institution, having notable scientific accomplishments.
- Applications should be submitted within five years following the applicant’s retirement.
- Must have published at least three peer-reviewed research papers in SCI-indexed journals with an impact factor exceeding 2.0, or have filed at least one patent within the last three years.
- Individuals who have previously received the Emeritus Scientist Fellowship from KSCSTE or other organizations are ineligible to reapply.
- The research work should be conducted at recognized R&D Centres under KSCSTE.
Application Process
The application process for the KSCSTE Emeritus Scientist Scheme is as follows:
Step 1: Online Application
Eligible candidates should submit their applications online through the KSCSTE Web Portal by visiting the following link: KSCSTE Application Portal.
Step 2: Application Scrutiny
Applications will undergo preliminary scrutiny to verify eligibility and supporting documentation.
Step 3: Peer Review
All validated applications will be subjected to a peer review process, where five subject experts (three from within Kerala and two from outside) will assess the proposals. Only those proposals that receive a score of greater than 5 on a 10-point scale from at least three reviewers will advance further.
Step 4: Presentation to the Expert Committee
Proposals that clear the peer review will be invited to present their research before the Programme Advisory Committee (PAC). Additional subject experts may also participate in this meeting. Based on favorable recommendations from the PAC, proposals will be considered for funding by KSCSTE. Applicants will be notified of the outcome and required to sign an agreement in accordance with the scheme’s guidelines.

Benefits
Selected candidates are eligible for:

Scrutiny of the Application:
Preliminary scrutiny of the application is carried out for verification of basic eligibility conditions and supporting documents.
Peer review:
All eligible applications are subjected to peer review by five subject experts (3 within & 2 outside the state) in the relevant area of research. Proposals with at least three reviews graded greater than 5 (on 10 point scale) are only considered for further processing.
Presentation before Expert Committee:
Proposals that have passed the peer review requirements will be invited for presentation before the Programme Advisory Committee. One or two reviewers will serve as additional Subject Expert during the PAC meeting. On favorable recommendation by the PAC, the proposal will be considered for funding by KSCSTE. The applicants will be informed of the decision and will be asked to execute an Agreement as per the guidelines of the scheme.
