Krishak Bakri Palan Yojna (कृषक बकरी पालन योजना)

The Government of Himachal Pradesh, through its Department of Animal Husbandry, has initiated the “Krishak Bakri Palan Yojna” to create enhanced income opportunities for economically disadvantaged communities while simultaneously increasing meat production in the state.

Overview of the Scheme

The “Krishak Bakri Palan Yojna” aims to uplift the economically weaker sections of society by promoting goat farming, a traditional livelihood for small farmers and landless laborers in Himachal Pradesh. Goat farming is particularly well-suited for these groups due to the adaptability of goats to varying agro-climatic conditions. The scheme proposes the distribution of goat units comprising 11 goats (10 females and 1 male), 5 goats (4 females and 1 male), and 3 goats (2 females and 1 male) from breeds such as Beetal, Sirohi, Jamanapari, and White Himalayan, with a substantial subsidy of 60% offered to the beneficiaries.

Objectives of the Scheme

  • Enhance Income Generation: Facilitate income opportunities for economically weaker sections through goat rearing.
  • Increase Meat Production: Provide high-quality goat breeds to boost the overall meat output in the state.
  • Support Economically Disadvantaged Families: Offer a 60% subsidy to enable financially weaker families to engage in goat farming.
  • Promote Rural Development: Foster rural growth through the encouragement of goat husbandry.
  • Ensure Sustainable Livelihoods: Create sustainable income sources for small farmers and landless laborers, reducing their economic risks.
