The “State Post-metric Scholarship for Disabled” scheme, initiated by the Department of Social Justice & Special Assistance of the Government of Maharashtra, aims to empower students with disabilities (SwDs) by facilitating their access to higher education. This initiative serves as a crucial platform for encouraging disabled individuals to pursue various educational avenues, including Higher Secondary Certificate (H.S.C.), professional, technical, medical, and engineering courses.

Overview of the Scheme

This scholarship program is exclusively available to permanent residents of Maharashtra and is fully funded by the state government. The scheme is designed to support students with disabilities, ensuring they receive the necessary financial assistance to further their education.

Benefits of the Scholarship

• Maintenance Allowance:
  • Group A: For Degree Courses in Medical, Engineering, Agricultural, Veterinary, and Postgraduate Degrees.
    • Hosteller (per month): ₹1200
    • Day Scholar (per month): ₹550
  • Group B: For Diploma Courses in Medical, Engineering, Agricultural, and Veterinary.
    • Hosteller (per month): ₹820
    • Day Scholar (per month): ₹530
  • Group C: For Postgraduate Courses in Arts, Science, Commerce, and Professional Education Diplomas.
    • Hosteller (per month): ₹820
    • Day Scholar (per month): ₹530
  • Group D: For students from the 2nd year of their degree courses.
    • Hosteller (per month): ₹570
    • Day Scholar (per month): ₹300
  • Group E: For students in 11th, 10th, and 1st year of Degree Courses.
    • Hosteller (per month): ₹380
    • Day Scholar (per month): ₹230
• Reader Allowance for Blind and Low-Vision Students:
  • Group A, B, C (per month): ₹100
  • Group D (per month): ₹75
  • Group E (per month): ₹50
• Tuition Fees: As sanctioned by the relevant authority.
• Study Tour Expenditure: ₹500 per annum.
• Project Typing Expenditure: ₹600 per annum.

Eligibility Criteria

• The applicant must be an Indian citizen.
• The applicant should be a permanent resident of Maharashtra.
• The applicant must be enrolled in a school recognized by the Government of Maharashtra.
• The applicant should be classified as a Person with Disability (including but not limited to visually impaired, low vision, hearing impairment, orthopedic handicaps, etc.).
• The applicant must have a disability percentage of 40% or greater.
• The applicant must have successfully completed the 10th grade.
• The applicant should not have failed in their last qualifying examination.
• The applicant must be pursuing a post-metric qualification, such as Higher Secondary School (11th or 12th grade) or a Technical/Professional Degree in fields like Medical or Engineering.

Application Procedure

To apply for the scholarship, follow these steps:

1. Obtain a physical copy of the application form from the designated authority at your educational institution.
2. Complete the application form by filling in all required fields, affixing a passport-sized photograph (signed across), and attaching all necessary self-attested documents.
3. Submit the filled and signed application form along with the necessary documents to the relevant authority at your school or college.
4. Ensure to collect a receipt or acknowledgment of the successful submission of your application from the concerned authority.
