Scheme for Study Abroad (विदेश में अध्ययन योजना)

In a progressive move to foster education among young girls, the Rajasthan Government launched the Scheme for Study Abroad in the academic year 2010-11. This initiative aims to empower female students by providing them with opportunities to pursue higher education overseas.

Overview of the Scheme

The government of Rajasthan has introduced a unique scheme specifically designed for female students. This initiative allows the top three girls from the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education to receive graduate education abroad for a duration of four years. The scheme is aimed at promoting higher education among girls and encouraging them to excel academically.

By July 15, the Board of Secondary Education will submit the names of the top six female students from government schools to the Director of the Department of Secondary Education. Following this, the Director will secure a consent letter from the respective guardians, ensuring that parents are well-informed about the scheme’s benefits for the top three students. In cases where consent is not granted by a guardian, the selection process will continue with the next eligible student from the list provided by the Board of Secondary Education.

Preparation for the necessary pre-admission examinations, such as the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test), will be facilitated in Jaipur, the state capital. Students are required to enroll in class 11 at a school in Jaipur to prepare for these examinations. The State Government will also offer special accommodation facilities for deserving students at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School Girls Hostel, located in Malviya Nagar, Jaipur, contingent upon parental consent. Should a student prefer to secure her own accommodation, she is free to do so.

The state government will cover the actual costs incurred for coaching and registration for the SAT for each student, ensuring financial support for their educational journey.

Benefits of the Scheme

  • The state government will cover up to Rs. 30,000 for coaching expenses and up to Rs. 50,000 for SAT registration fees, based on actual costs incurred.
  • Each girl student will receive Rs. 25,000 to assist with the application process for admission to a foreign university.
  • Upon acceptance into a foreign university, students will be provided full accommodation at the university and an economy class airfare to visit their parents once a year.
  • A maximum budget of Rs. 10.00 lakh will be allocated annually per student for all related expenses during the four-year course.
